8. Inheritance Rights of Men and Women
The Quran states: “Men shall have a share in what parents and relatives leave behind, and women shall have a share in what parents and relatives leave behind, whether it be little or much. This is ordained [by God].” (Quran, 4:7)
This provision ensures that all heirs—sons, whether minors or adults, and daughters, whether minors or adults—receive their predetermined portions. These shares are fixed and obligatory, establishing clear and equitable rules for inheritance.
In ancient times, inheritance laws were often unjust. Heirs either received no shares or were allocated their portions unequally. The Quran addressed this inequity by establishing a fair and balanced system, ensuring that every heir—male or female—receives their rightful portion.
