39. O Soul at Peace

The Quran describes the moment when God will address the dwellers of Paradise:

“O soul at peace, return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. Join My servants. Enter My Paradise.” (89:27-30)

The expression “tranquil soul” (nafs al-mutma’innah) refers to both men and women. It denotes a soul that has attained inner peace and is free from psychological complexity, that is, a complex-free soul.

Those who deserve Paradise are men and women who maintain balance and composure in every circumstance. Prosperity does not make them arrogant, nor does hardship drive them to despair. In strength, they remain humble; in weakness, they remain patient. Whether honoured or insulted, victorious or defeated, they continue to walk the path of truth and justice.

Such individuals are the ones whom God calls “the tranquil soul.” They are the true servants of God, destined for His eternal Paradise.
