36. Religious Nurturing
The Quran commands: “Believers, safeguard yourselves and your families from a Fire fuelled by people and stones, and watched over by angels, stern and strong: angels who never disobey God’s commands to them, but promptly do as they are commanded.” (66:6)
Human beings generally think in terms of material loss and gain. Their concerns revolve around worldly comfort and immediate needs. But the Quran warns that such a mindset is dangerously shallow. Both men and women have been entrusted with a far greater responsibility—to protect themselves and their families from the loss of the Hereafter. True success does not lie in worldly prosperity or temporary security, but in being saved from the Fire and attaining Paradise.
Thus, genuine family responsibility means building a home enriched with spiritual and moral nurturing, not merely material comfort. Husband and wife must work together to cultivate in their children an awareness of God, a love for truth, and a longing for eternal success—for the true home of the believer is not this temporary world, but the everlasting world to come.
