5. The Mark of Better Character

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet of Islam said: “The most complete of the believers in faith are those who are best in character, and the best among you are those who are best to their wives.” (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith No. 24204)

Although the wording addresses men, its moral lesson applies equally to both men and women.

When a husband and wife live together, differences and complaints naturally arise. Feelings of anger, hurt, and resentment may follow. Such moments serve as a test for both.

Those—men or women—who respond with patience, tolerance, and composure demonstrate the strength of their faith and character before God. By controlling anger and showing kindness, they elevate their moral standing and come closer to divine approval.
