2. The Standard of Character
“Aisha Siddiqah reported that the Prophet of Islam said: ‘The best among you is the one who is best to his family, and I am the best among you to my family. And when your spouse dies, pray for them.’” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 3895)
In family life, husbands and wives live in close and continuous companionship. Naturally, differences, complaints, and moments of resentment may arise between them.
In such situations, a person’s greatest moral test often lies within the home. A man who treats his family with kindness and good conduct has truly succeeded in this test. Likewise, a woman who maintains gentleness and good behaviour within her home has also achieved moral success.
Those who demonstrate moral excellence within their families will naturally carry the same character into their public lives.
When one spouse passes away, and the other remains, grief and mourning naturally follow. Islam teaches that, at such moments, sorrow should be transformed into prayer. What is lost in this world should be sought in the Hereafter.
