33. Equal Reward for Both
The Quran states:
“Alms-givers, both men and women, who give a generous loan to God, shall have it multiplied and shall have an honourable reward.” (57:18)
Spending one’s wealth in the path of God is described in the Quran as “lending to Allah.” This metaphor signifies that such giving is never lost; rather, it will be returned in the Hereafter with immense increase and everlasting honour.
This promise applies equally to men and women. Each is encouraged to give from what they possess—not for personal benefit, but solely for God’s pleasure and the advancement of His cause.
The phrase “a generous loan” (qarz hasan) describes the noblest form of charity—one given sincerely, without expecting anything in return except from God. It particularly includes financial support for the communication of God’s message, a task carried out purely for divine reasons, free from personal or worldly motives.
Therefore, the Quran elevates charity to the status of a sacred act between the creature and the Creator, promising both men and women a reward of dignity and abundance in the eternal life to come.
