زمین کی زرخیز سطح

سیارۂ ارض کی سطح پر جو زرخیز مٹی (soil) پائی جاتی ہے، اس قسم کی زرخیز مٹی کسی بھی دوسرے سیارے پر موجود نہیں۔ یہ زرخیز مٹی مختلف اسباب سے کم ہورہی ہے اور اس کے اندر پیداوار کی صلاحیت گھٹتی جارہی ہے۔ اِس موضوع پر سائنٹفک رسرچ سے معلوم ہوا ہے کہ موجودہ حالت اگر باقی رہے، تو اگلے 60 برس کے اندر زمین کی زرخیزی ختم ہوجائے گی۔ اِس رپورٹ کا خلاصہ نئی دہلی کے انگریزی اخبار ٹائمس آف انڈیا(6 فروری 2010) میں چھپا ہے۔ اِس رپورٹ کا ایک حصہ یہ ہے:

Fertile soil is being lost faster than it can be replenished and will eventually lead to the “topsoil bank” becoming empty, researchers told an Australian conference. They said farming soil could run out within 60 years, leading to a catastrophic food crisis and drastically higher prices for consumers, reports the Telegraph. Chronic soil mismanagement and over farming causing erosion, climate change and increasing populations were to blame for the dramatic global decline in suitable farming soil, the scientists said. An estimated 75 million tons of soil is lost annually with more than 80% of the world’s farming land “moderately or severely eroded.” John Crawford, professor of Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Sydney, who presented the study, said: “It could be as little as 60 years and that is a scary figure because it is not obvious that we have time to reverse decline and still meet future demands for food.” The Telegraph quoted Crawford as saying. اِس طرح کی رپورٹیں سائنٹفک کمیونٹی کی طرف سے باربار آرہی ہیں— میٹھے پانی کے ذخیرے سمندروں میں جاکر دوبارہ کھاری پانی بن رہے ہیں، فضا کی آلودگی (pollution) میں مسلسل اضافہ ہورہا ہے، خلاصہ یہ کہ وہ تمام اسباب جو انسان کی بقا کے لیے ضروری تھے، وہ شدید طورپر درہم برہم ہورہے ہیں۔ یہ واقعات اِس بات کی کھلی علامت ہیں کہ قیامت بہت قریب آگئی ہے۔ بظاہر ایسا معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اکیسویں صدی عیسوی انسان کے لیے آخری صدی ہے، اس کے بعد انسان کی نسل بائیسویں صدی میں داخل ہونے والی نہیں۔
