TICKET TO SUCCESS
In today’s world, the surest way to succeed is through education. Those who have discovered this truth are benefiting greatly.
In the United States, an annual educational competition is held in which students from across the country take part. From this contest, the top six science students are chosen. In 1987, when the six most outstanding American students were selected, the name of an Indian girl, Keshani Bhushan, was also included. She was awarded a scholarship of one thousand dollars a month from Mary Baldwin College (Hindustan Times, 30 August 1987).
On March 21, 1988, newspapers in Delhi reported a story. The Indian Express ran it under the headline:
Indian Boy Tops in US Science Competition
In America, many kinds of science competitions are held. One of the most prestigious is the Westinghouse Science Talent Search. In 1988, its 47th annual contest was held. The student who came first was an Indian student named Chetan Nayak. He was awarded a yearly scholarship of 20,000 dollars so that he could continue his higher studies. In the past, five winners of the Westinghouse competition later went on to receive the Nobel Prize.
Education today is truly a ticket to success. The degree system of education has brought this ladder of success right to everyone’s doorstep. To benefit from it, only one thing is needed: hard work. If a person combines effort with wisdom, they can achieve the highest success anywhere—whether in America, India, or any other country.
