American businessmen employ every imaginable and unimaginable method to expand their trade. For example, in America, almost everything can be obtained on installment—whether it is a vacuum cleaner or a grand mansion spread over several acres, a motor car or even a jet aircraft. Everything can be bought on easy installments. So much so that among Americans there is a common saying: if you have the ability to pay installments, you could even buy America, provided it were for sale.
One of the most important features of American business is what is called customer service. Major American companies are always striving to please their customers and make them satisfied.
An example of this customer service is that an item purchased from one branch of a business can be returned to any other branch, in any city, simply with the explanation that “I didn’t like it after buying it.” No irritation, no questioning. All you need is the receipt, and the money is refunded immediately. The phrase “Goods once sold cannot be returned” is alien to American business vocabulary.
If in India some people were to establish a limited company or cooperative society, and with joint investment, open departmental stores in all major cities, where every type of item was sold, and if they gave the guarantee that goods purchased from one store could be returned at any other store, such a business would create a sensation across the country. It would certainly achieve enormous success.
This field of trade in India is completely open. The opportunities here are so great that one could even achieve monopoly-level success. However, this possibility can only be realized by those who possess the necessary qualities—hard work, honesty, and teamwork.
