ONE’S WEAKNESS
Robert Emmiyan (b. 1965) is a well-known athlete who represented the USSR and Armenia. He is regarded as the top long-jumper. He was born on February 15, 1965, and earned extraordinary fame by winning gold medals in international competitions.
An Indian journalist, Mr. V. Krishnaswamy, conducted a detailed interview with Robert Emmiyan. It was published in The Times of India on April 5, 1988. Mr. Krishnaswamy asked the Russian champion: when you take part in international competitions, what do you do to achieve success? Robert Emmiyan replied:
“The most important thing is to get rid of the defects which prevent me from improving my performance. My coach and I know that I have reserves which we must put to use.”
In other words, he emphasized that his key priority was to eliminate the weaknesses that hindered his progress, noting that both he and his coach recognized the untapped potential that needed to be fully utilized.
The secret of success that Robert Emmiyan described for sports is the same secret of success in life. Whenever a person fails in the competition of life, he fails because of his own weaknesses. Knowing his internal weaknesses and overcoming them and entering the field of action with better preparation, this is the only secret of success in this world. In the present world, whoever succeeds does so by fulfilling this condition and whoever is unsuccessful is unsuccessful because he proved to be deficient in fulfilling this condition. The unsuccessful is the one who fails to make full use of his abilities, and the successful is the one who proves to be successful by making full use of his abilities.
