The following is a selection from Prophet Muhammad: The Night Journey.
During a difficult time in Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad had a special experience called the Night Journey and Ascension, or al-Isra and al- Miraj. This happened when Muslims were facing oppression.
One night, the Angel Jibril woke the Prophet Muhammad up while he was sleeping near the Kabah. The angel took him on a special animal with wings called Buraq from Makkah to al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.
In Al-Aqsa Mosque, the angel Jibril asked the Prophet to lead the prayer. When the Prophet finished, Jibril said to him: “All the Prophets sent by Allah prayed behind you!”
Next, the Angel Jibril took the Prophet through the gates of Heaven, where he saw many angels. After that, Jibril showed the Prophet the Seven Heavens, one by one.
When he was there, he felt really peaceful. He saw a brilliant light from Allah’s presence that was very special.
If inaction breeds humility, it is better than an action that breeds arrogance.
