There's only one secret to having angels' companionship: make yourself God-oriented. كُونُوا رَبَّانِيِّينَ (3:79) What does this mean? Your greatest concern should be God. An American author has written a book on Islam. There's one aspect of his book which I appreciate the most. He says: "The greatest concern of Islam is Allah." The gist of his deep study of Islam is: The greatest concern of Islam is Allah. Make God your greatest concern. The additional benefit of doing this is you get the companionship of angels. This is indeed a great reality.
The Quran says clearly: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ تُوعَدُون (41:30) Those who say, “Our Sustainer is God,” and then steadfastly pursue the right way. Being steadfast means they don’t deviate in any situation. There are certain prerequisites of faith. When you say God is my Lord, you have to follow this in speech, thought, actions and every matter. Being steadfast means to follow God in every matter, without the slightest deviation.
People take the word istaqamu in a mysterious sense. Istaqamu means you have discovered God, realized Him and His greatness. You discovered that God is the Lord of the Day of Judgment and then devoted your entire life to Him. Your thought, speech, activities -- are all based on your discovery of God. For such people, the Quran says angels descend upon them. The angels say: "We are your companions. We are with you." This is indeed very unique. Companionship of the Prophet lasted for 23 years. Companionship of angels is available throughout one's life.
People are not aware of this nor do they desire to have the companionship of angels. They don’t spend a life that would make them deserving of angels' companionship. The greatest blessing in this world is to have the companionship of angels. When the Prophet was alive, the greatest blessing for someone was to have Prophet's companionship. But the Prophet lived for 23 years, what after him?
This religion is eternal. Who will receive the companionship of angels?
