According to hadith, people are like metal. (Sahih Muslim 2638) Steel, gold, silver are various kinds of metal. When we are born we are like metal, we then mould and purify ourselves. Gradually, we become prepared and purified personalities. The Prophet said: خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا. (Sahih Muslim 2638) That is, one who had made himself a prepared personality before accepting Islam, begins to understand everything smoothly after having accepted Islam. For a person, there is a period before Islam. What is this period? You have been given a personality. You should prepare it, mould and purify it, correct its way of thinking. You should engage in intellectual, spiritual and personality development. The above hadith is for a person who has done all this. When Islam or the divine truth comes before such a person, he immediately recognizes it and accepts it. He makes it a part of his life. Those who are best in Ignorance are best in Islam' refers to those who have developed their personality, and made themselves prepared mind.

This has been mentioned in the Quran: هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ. The Quran is guidance for the God-fearing. The Quran says:  ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ "This is the Book; there is no doubt in it. It is a guide for those who are mindful of God." (2:2) Muttaqi is a person who has a prepared mind and a developed personality. He is a person who follows his nature and prevents himself from taking the wrong option. He walks in the right direction. He has right thinking, develops receptivity and is able to understand matters in depth.
