Everyone wishes to live a healthy life in this world. But no one achieves that wish. So, death is, in reality, a compulsory eviction, a forceful removal from this world. That time will inevitably come for everyone. Before it arrives, one must develop their personality, that is, they should build a purified personality (وَذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ مَنْ تَزَكَّى). That is the recompense for those who purify themselves. (The Quran 20:76) A purified personality is developed by choosing a Hereafter-oriented life. In such a personality, the process of purification will continue. Conversely, a person who chooses a worldly-oriented life will not undergo this process. The inner development of their personality will not progress.
Yesterday, I was reflecting on old age, wondering what it truly means. I realized it is simply a phase that brings us closer to death. When a person is born, they are a child. Then they grow into a youth, become an adult, enter middle age, and eventually grow old. After old age comes death.
If I wish for my life to continue for another thousand years, that is impossible. So, it occurred to me that death is a compulsory eviction from this world. Everyone wishes to live a healthy life in this world. But no one achieves that wish. So, death is, in reality, a compulsory eviction, a forceful removal from this world. That time will inevitably come for everyone. Before it arrives, one must develop their personality, that is, they should build a purified personality. (Arabic text) That is the recompense for those who purify themselves. (The Quran 20:76)
A purified personality is developed by choosing a Hereafter-oriented life. In such a personality, the process of purification will continue. Conversely, a person who chooses a worldly-oriented life will not undergo this process. The inner development of their personality will not progress. So, all these things are very thought-provoking. Many people believe that simply performing religious rituals is enough. For instance, praying five times a day, fasting during Ramadan, and performing Hajj when the time comes—treating these acts as mere rituals, as forms. But these rituals are not the essence. The real question is whether the process of personality purification is ongoing. Are these rituals fostering the development of a purified character, or are they simply empty actions? The fate of your future is determined through this process.
