A believer is one who, after his discovery of God, becomes very sincere, serious, careful and conscious. He takes lessons from everything. All this becomes part of his personality. A believer's personality is very responsible. This is why he is safe from things. The hadith does not mean that simply the label of a believer makes a person safe from all difficulties. This is not the meaning of the hadith.
According to a hadith: لَا يُلْدَغُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مِنْ جُحْرٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ (Sunan Ibn Majah 3982) "A believer is not bitten by the same hole twice."
Here, the 'hole' referred to is a den in which snakes and other animals live. If you put your leg or hand in the hole, the snake will bite you. This should happen once, it should not happen again. This means that a believer is not a careless person. He is very careful. A believer has sincerity. If he is careful, he will save himself from a hole which has bitten him once. If he is careless, he will repeat the same misake again and again. A believer is not bitten by the same hole twice, meaning that a believer is careful, conscious, sincere and takes lesson from events. If you take lessons from events, then you will never repeat the same mistake again.
A person who repeats the same mistake again is careless and insincere. A believer is not bitten by the same hole twice -- this is not anything mysterious. Thinking that having the label of a believer will make you safe from things is untrue. The hadith doesn’t mean that if you have the label of a believer, you will mysteriously be safe from everything.
