The beauty of a person's Islam is that he leaves resultless activities. This means that your actions will be judged on the basis of result. Our planning should be result-oriented. Right planning is that which is result-oriented. If a certain planning is not beneficial and only increases our losses, then we have to re-assess the matter. We have to accept that our planning was wrong.
What do we have to do in the 21st century? We have to do rethinking, re-assessment and replanning. Replanning cannot happen unless we accept that we were wrong. We must say: In the previous planning, we were wrong. We have to acknowledge that our previous planning was wrong.
That planning was based on الدين العداوة (religion of enmity), although we have to base our planning on الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ (religion of well-wishing) (Sahih Muslim 55) At this moment, the first task for Muslims all over the world is that they have to reassess, revise, replan and then develop their plan. To develop a plan of action, we must accept that the previous plan was wrong. Differentiating right from wrong is a practical matter.
Ideology or belief system is a separate matter. What is the criterion in practical matters? The only criterion is to see the result. The hadith says: مِنْ حُسْنِ إِسْلَامِ المَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2317) This means that if the result is positive, then our action is right. If the result is not positive, then our planning was wrong. The beauty of a person's Islam is that he leaves resultless activities. This means that your actions will be judged on the basis of result. Our planning should be result-oriented. Right planning is that which is result-oriented. If a certain planning is not beneficial and only increases our losses, then we have to re-assess the matter.
