Whoever intends to perform Hajj must abstain from indecent speech, wicked conduct, and quarrelling. These three words are very important. Rafath means indecent speech, speaking in a foul manner and indulging in idle laughter. Often people get used to speaking about useless matters. The Quran says if you journey for Hajj, abstain from indecent and unnecessary talk. This means that you must have a lot of seriousness and sincerity. Insincere people speak indecently, in a foul manner and crack jokes. Doing all this means to have cheap taste. To abstain from indecent talk means that you have to perform Hajj in a serious frame of mind. You must be very sincere. You must not indulge in unnecessary laughter and amusement. You must be extremely sincere when you begin the journey for Hajj. Fusuq means to deviate. This means to transgress from the principles mentioned in the Quran and Hadith. This is very important because generally you see people are used to deviation. You have to adhere to a straight line, a set of principles, a set of values. You must not deviate away from this straight line. This is very essential in the period of Hajj, otherwise Hajj will be meaningless.

The third thing to abstain from is fighting. Whenever many people gather together, there is always some bitter or unpleasant experience. Differences are bound to arise in such a setting. It is but natural. You are being told to be extremely cautious. When we perform worship in congregation, surely an incident may occur where you dislike something about me and I dislike something about you. We are being told to adopt patience in this matter. We have to be extremely patient. We must avoid and ignore.
