The Importance of Dua in Dawah Work

Many a times it happens that we discover that a person is egoist, arrogant and stubborn. Our argument and logic are unable to deal with him. This is expressed as 'the ice is frozen between us.'  To break the ice we have to start from dua, or prayer. To break the ice we have to seek help from dua. I have seen that at times when I do dawah with a person, I find him a stubborn case. Arrogance is not the only obstacle, rather the greatest hurdle is confusion. Arrogance is a relatively minor issue. The case of one who lives in confusion is that he keeps justifying himself and believing that he is right. Intellectually, such a person thinks that he is right. In both cases -- if a person is arrogant or in confusion -- I see that a limit comes to my dawah effort. So, I begin to take support form prayer. This has helped me a lot.

So, I begin to take support form prayer. This has helped me a lot.

I will give you an example of the Prophet. The Prophet began his mission in 610 AD in Makkah. There were two top intellectuals in Makkah at that time -- Abdul Uzza and Umar ibn al-Khattab. The Prophet did dawah with both of them, for many years. None of the two was ready to accept the prophetic message. Both were very stubborn. Then the Prophet began to pray for both of them. The Prophet famously prayed: "O God, strengthen Islam with one of the two Umars." Both had 'Umar' in their names -- one was Amr ibn Hisham and the other was Umar ibn al-Khattab. The Prophet prayed to God to strengthen Islam by either of the two Umars. He prayed to God to support the mission of truth by either of these two men of Makkah. God accepted Prophet's prayer in favour of Umar ibn al-Khattab.
