A hadith says: لاَ يَرْمِي رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا بِالفُسُوقِ، وَلاَ يَرْمِيهِ بِالكُفْرِ، إِلَّا ارْتَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ، إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ صَاحِبُهُ كَذَلِكَ  (Sahih al-Bukhari 6045) If someone says anything bad about a person, then such words will return to the speaker if that person isn't bad. What does this mean? Speech is a boomerang game. If we utter a statement that is baseless, or false, what happens? It doesn’t get directed at that person, it returns to us. We develop a weak personality. Our personality development process halts. We develop an insincere personality. This is a heavy price you pay for speaking carelessly, without much thought. A person has to pay a very heavy price for making careless statements. A person must be cautious about things that go against his own self. In speaking carelessly, you develop a weak personality. You give rise to insincerity within. You make yourself dishonest. Whenever you say anything baseless, based on falsehood, it is not a simple matter. You have to pay its price yourself. If you say that the Taj Mahal is not made of white marble, but of black stone. Then your words won't be directed at Taj Mahal, but at your own self. People will say: This person is colour blind! Remember, you will have to pay a very heavy price.
