People readily acknowledge seen 'gods'. But no one acknowledges God in the unseen. Both Muslims and non-Muslims acknowledge seen 'god', but nobody really acknowledges God in the unseen. This is a test. Here is the test of all human beings. Here is the test of all men and women. You should discover the unseen God. Try to discover unseen God as seen God. The test is to discover unseen God as seen God and then acknowledge Him. According to a hadith: أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ (Worship God as if you are seeing Him) [Sahih al-Bukhari 50] Converting unseen into seen is worship. As long as you don’t convert unseen into seen, you won't be able to worship God truly. Worship God as if you are seeing Him.

What does this mean? Before worship, you will have to convert unseen God into seen God. You will have to discover the undiscovered God. Then you will be able to perform true worship. True worship doesn't mean to do ablutions, stand behind the imam, say Allahu Akbar and perform prostration. You can't perform true worship by simply observing these rituals. True worship has a pre-worship period. That involves discovery of God, or making unseen seen. When you have discovered God before worship, you have discovered the unseen God, you will then be able to perform true worship.

This is the worship in which you 'see' God. The greatest mistake has been that people don’t understand this reality of worship: first discover God and then you will be able to worship God. First discover God and then you will be able to truly recite the kalimah. First you should discover God and then you will be able to lead a God-oriented life.
