According to the Islamic concept, the prophet is not God. The prophet is only a human being. He goes through all those experiences which a human being does. He has the sentiments and experiences of a human being. God sends down His revelation to him so that he can deliver it to other humans. Once the Prophet took a loan from a person. He fixed a period to return that amount. When the period had passed, the person came to the Prophet. He began to speak rudely to the Prophet. He said: You haven't repaid the loan, although the period we fixed is already passed. Your entire family is such. The offspring of Abdul Muttalib don't repay their loans on time. The Prophet's companion sought to beat up the person for such rudeness. He was speaking rudely to the Prophet right in front of him! He even said that the entire offspring of Abdul Muttalib refused to repay their loans. They take money, but don’t return it on time. He kept on saying whatever came to his mind. The Prophet didn’t flog him for his rudeness. The Prophet said: دَعُوهُ، فَإِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الحَقِّ مَقَالًا (Sahih al-Bukhari, 2306) This is something to think about. The Prophet said: Don’t say anything to him. Because he has the right to speak. If a person has a right over us, then he has the right to speak about it. Since we had not returned his loan, he had the right to speak about it. This response shows a high level of humanity. The Prophet didn’t say even a word to him. He didn’t ask why he was abusing him. Rather the Prophet said that since we have taken his money and not returned it on time, he has the right to speak about it. This is the character demonstrated by the Prophet. We need to learn from it.
