Mutual Respect is the Basis for Social Harmony

There are two formulas: mutual recognition and mutual respect. Mutual recognition doesn’t bring an end to fighting. Mutual respect stops all kinds of clash. You have to respect the other person in every situation whatsoever. You have to be forbearing. You have to tolerate, be patient and adopt avoidance. This will bring peace. This matter is not related to religion, rather it is related to your thinking or your state of mind.

Since past 100 years, people have been saying that every religion should be accepted as true. Otherwise, there will be no peace. I am reminded of the formula: In comparison that we understand. Why is there conflict in a society which has people of the same religion? In the Mahabharat, people on both sides belonged to the same religion. Both sides in the Mahabharat believed in the same religion. Why was there a clash between the two? In Europe's WWI and WWII people on both sides belonged to the same religion. Then why was there a clash between them? It is not true that if all belong to the same religion, clashes will not happen. This matter is related to your state of mind. If you are tolerant and forbearing, you will not fight. If you accept that we have to live peacefully, we have to tolerate and learn to ignore, then you will never clash with anyone.

Otherwise, people of the same religion fight with one another. In Pakistan, people of the same religion are fighting amongst themselves. In Iraq, we hear daily that people of the same religion are killing each other. Everywhere, even in East India, this is happening. People of the same religion are killing one another. This has happened throughout history. It is not true that if you accept that all religions are true, all disputes will come to an end. This thought is not related to clashes between people.

Islam gives the formula: لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ (109:6) In this matter the Islamic formula is based on mutual respect, and not mutual recognition.
