Peace is the greatest good in Islam. Why? Where there is peace, there is normalcy. Where there is peace, there will be opportunities to do work. You will have the freedom to do whatever you want without any obstacles. In Islam, peace is the summum bonum. But Muslims remain unaware of this. Why? This is because of the concept that the Prophet is the king of the universe, while we are beggars before him. This belief has led to a huge loss.
Read Surah al-Fath in the Quran. It was revealed after the Hudaybiyah agreement. It says: اِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا. (Truly, We have granted you a clear victory) The pronoun used here is singular: O Prophet, We have granted you a clear victory. Since the pronoun used is singular, the entire Muslim community linked this verse to the Prophet. They believe that the incident of Hudaybiyah was unique to the Prophet. What happened at Hudaybiyah? There was a peace agreement. The Prophet accepted all the conditions of the other side and entered an agreement unilaterally. He accepted all of their conditions. When they erased the word 'Messenger of God' from paper, he accepted that as well. The Prophet's purpose was to obtain peace.
This means that you have to establish peace at any cost. The Prophet's Hudaybiyah agreement is part of his sunnah, or method. It is not something unique or distinctive to the Prophet alone. The universal principle of Hudybiyah is that we have to establish peace at any cost, even if there are unrealistic demands such as, erase the word 'Messenger'. Even today there is no Muslim who is aware of this principle. If a rumour goes around that the Prophet has been disrespected, a hue and cry is created. People are injured and killed, and violence is perpetrated. The Prophet erased the word 'Messenger' from paper but there was no reaction to it among Muslims at that time. But today there is an uproar even at the most trivial comments. It is assumed that the Hudaybiyah agreement was unique to the Prophet. On the contrary, it was part of the sunnah of the Prophet, or the Prophet's method. You have to establish peace at any cost. From this I have derived that peace is the summum bonum in Islam. Peace is the greatest good in Islam. Why? Where there is peace, there is normalcy. Where there is peace, there will be opportunities to do work. You will have the freedom to do whatever you want without any obstacles. In Islam, peace is the summum bonum. But Muslims remain unaware of this. Why?
