If a religion is shaped that only honors Muslims and neglects respect for humanity as a whole, that religion would become alien to Islam. It would not be the Islam followed by the Prophet . The essence of Islam is to show respect to all human beings, treating them as equals. As far as religion is concerned, the Quran says, 'لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ' (109:6) "For you is your religion, and for me, mine." Meaning, follow one and respect all. But as far as humanity is concerned, all people are worthy of respect. Every human is respectable, all are created by God. So, the teachings of Islam are about the respect of humanity as a whole, not just Muslims.
One day, the Prophet Muhammad saw a Jewish funeral passing by. At that moment, he was seated, but out of respect, he stood up. His companion said, "O Messenger of God, this is a Jewish funeral," implying surprise that the Prophet was showing respect to a Jewish funeral. The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, 'أَلَيْسَتْ نَفْسًا' (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1312) – "Was he not a human being?" Notice here, the Prophet acknowledged the deceased as a human, just like himself. "Was he not a human being?" I am a human being, and so was he. "This teaches us that the way of the Prophet was to honor all of humanity, not just Muslims."
