There are two sides in dawah: dayee and madu. A dayee should not only know the message he has to convey, rather he should also know the mindset of the madu. In other words, doing talif-e-qalb for the madu is very important in dawah. A scholar once said that a believer only has responsibilities to fulfil in this world, he has no rights to demand. This saying is true for a dayee. A dayee has no right over the madu. In the Quran, the Prophet tells his madu that he seeks no reward from them (6:90). A dayee cannot complain to the madu or demand anything from him or protest against him. A dayee has to be a complete well-wisher of the madu. The principles of dawah can be known through study of the Quran, but the madu's mindset and inclinations can be known by observing and reading the madu himself. Dawah is not mere announcement, rather it should address the mind of the madu (4:63). If the madu's mind does not get addressed he will not seriously think about what the dayee has said. Those who are doing dawah work should know the divine message, but at the same time they must address the madu's mind properly. Dawah cannot happen without planning. Dawah is not merely to make people recite the kalimah. Dawah is to make the madu discover God and His message. The Quran equates the truth with discovery and realization of God (5:83). A dayee who makes the madu discover the truth at this level has done right dawah. A dayee should be very serious. Dawah is a serious and sincere effort. Dawah without such an effort cannot be truly called dawah. This is because dawah implies completing all arguments for God before the madu (4:165). That is, the madu should not be able to say in the Hereafter that he was unaware of the truth.
