There is mention of the incident of Isra and Meraj in the Quran:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ  إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا.

Holy is He who took His servant by night from the sacred place of worship [at Makkah] to the remote house of worship [at Jerusalem] -- the precincts of which We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. (17:1)

Commentaries are not clear about the meaning of the word signs in this verse. Some say it means greenery, fig and olive tree, which God wanted to show the Prophet. But this is ridiculous. Some say there were graves of the prophets. This too is ridiculous. The meaning of the word some of Our signs isn't clear here. There are many signs of God, but God wanted to show a special sign to the Prophet. This is also called “some of the signs”

I have understood that here signs means the age of communication. The word ayat means the age of communication. From the Prophet's time, a new historical age began. The entire world became a global village. With this came openness, religious freedom and other scopes in the world.

The Prophet had to be shown this sign of God — the earth potentially contained everything from aeroplane, car, communication, telephone, internet and computer. All this potential still hadn’t become actual. The Prophet brought a revolution in this world, which initiated a new process. This process culminated in the 21st century. This verse of the Quran contains a great truth. A person should fall into prostration and proclaim that the Quran is indeed God's book.
