NEW DELHI, 30th April, 2015 (WAM)--Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated renowned Islamic thinker and activist Maulana Wahiduddin Khan after he was conferred the Sayyidina Imam Al Hassan Ibn Ali Peace Award, by the 2nd Annual Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, which concluded today in Abu Dhabi.

The 90-year-old Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, who has authored several books and articles on Islam, was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2000.

The award aims to disseminate peace, culture of dialogue and coexistence without prejudice to the Islamic rules as well as seeking to update the means, mechanisms and approaches to address and convince the Muslim youth so as not to slip into violence and extremism, as well as not to become preys of personal political, ethnic and sectarian ambitions.
