Limitations of Civilization

Human beings wanted to develop this world indefinitely, but global warming indicates that earth is refusing this pace of uncontrolled advancement. We wanted to further civilizational progress, but earth's resources are nearing exhaustion. Mahatma Gandhi rightly said that the world has enough for everyone's needs, but not for everyone's greed. God has made this world so that here we adopt simple living and high thinking. The desire for comfort and luxury runs against this divine plan. Our unlimited desires cannot find fulfilment in this world, because it is a limited world. This means that we should make another world, that is, Paradise our goal. In this world we have to adhere to the principle, 'Simple living, high thinking'. Global warming is a global warning, telling us that the lifestyle we yearn for can be attained only in the Hereafter. The Prophet once said that good life in the absolute sense can be had only in Paradise. In this world we have only one option, that of simple living and high thinking. High thinking means engaging in spiritual and intellectual development, and thus becoming deserving of entry to Paradise.
